Description of the workshop:
The Brihadaranyaks Upanishad describes how the soul "moves in a dream state up and downward, divinely assuming many shapes and forms." This passage can be seen as a metaphor for how the sleep/dream cycle occurs during the night and how dream content is comprised of a variety of images. This workshop will begin with a PowerPoint presentation on the psychology and neurophysiology of dreams. It will continue with instructions that participants can use to work with their own dreams and with dreams of their clients. One approach will be methods for working with one's own dreams. Another approach will be interactive methods that can be used to work with a client.or a friend The final approach will be a method that can be used with an entire group of clients or laypeople. The latter method is popular with groups of people who meet at regulate intervals to work with dreams to develop their own insight, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The workshop will end with a discussion of the role that dreaming played in human evolution. Participants who do not want to share their dream reports with other people are welcome to learn the first set of instructions and to serve as observers for the other exercises. It is only necessary for a participant to have remembered one dream to derive benefit from this workshop. Techniques for dream recall will be taught, as will be ways of recording one's dreams. One always works with a "dream report" not the actual dream; Dreamers do not remember every detail of a dream which is why "dream report" is a more appropriate term.
